EMBER’S POV The record scratches. The entire room goes dead silent. My brain… breaks. The rogues trade lost, confused looks. Knox’s head comes up slow, his gold eyes narrowing. And I stand there perfectly still while the word goes off in my skull, over and over. Brother. Silas is her brother. The Rogue King is her brother. Which means— Silas Black goes completely motionless. I watch the crime lord who was ten seconds from unleashing his rogues to execute us turn his enormous frame away from Knox. He looks at his sister. Then he looks at me. He crosses the space in two strides, ignoring Knox, ignoring the gun, and reaches out with one huge scarred hand, gentle as anything, to take my chin and tilt my face up into the light. He looks at me. Nobody has ever looked at me like this.
