The Good News
Emma’s pov
The next two days were a blur of fear. I felt like I was waiting for a bomb to go off. Every time my phone buzzed, I jumped. Every time a car pulled into the driveway, I thought it was Rachel coming to end my life. I couldn't eat, and I couldn't sleep.
Then, Alex came to find me. He looked calmer than he had in weeks. He told me, "Emma, stop shaking. I’m going to handle it. I’m going to make sure she never says a word."
I didn’t ask him how. I didn’t want to know about the dark things he might have to do or say to someone like Rachel. I just wanted to be able to breathe again. I just wanted the nightmare to stop.
That evening, Emily told us she was going out. Some of her old friends from college were in town, and
