Even without Jaxen’s warning, I wouldn’t have gone there.
The dislike was real. And Jaxen was already circling too close, catching scents of things he shouldn’t.
One wrong word from Regina had been enough for him to drag me out to the estate before.
If he caught wind that Gary was still around… I didn’t want the mess. I wasn’t scared of him.
I just didn’t need the complication.
