So that was it. All that buildup had been for one reason. He wanted to sleep in my bed.
Before tonight, if Jaxen had been stubborn enough, I might have compromised just to get a decent night’s sleep. But something had changed.
I didn’t want to keep compromising with him.
Every time I gave in, even over something small, I was probably giving him the wrong idea.
I needed to be clear.
“I’ve been working all day.” I stretched.
“My back hurts. I want to sleep alone.”
I looked at him. “If you sleep here, there’s a good chance you’ll ruin my sleep, and then I’ll be useless at work tomorrow.”
“Okay.” He turned to leave. Then he stopped.
“Why did you have to work so late today?”
“Please.” I rolled my eyes.
“I’m an employee. My boss decides when I’m done.”
