I was about to leave when I heard a faint, slightly unpleasant sound from somewhere inside the apartment.
I stopped.
Where was it coming from?
After listening for a moment, I figured out the direction and walked toward it.
The sound was coming from one of the bedrooms.
I wasn’t sure who used that room.
Two women lived here, and Scarlett already disliked me showing up uninvited.
If I made Delaney uncomfortable too, I would only make things worse for myself.
So I didn’t open the door.
Instead, I stood outside and asked, “Is anyone in there?”
“Who is it?”
