Delaney was clearly still half-asleep.
Took forever to pick up, then just made a noise before managing actual words.
“Scarlett? Weren’t you and Regina on vacation? Why are you back already? You said you weren’t coming home for a while.”
“Yeah. I’m back. Jaxen got in a car accident and ended up in the hospital. But...”
“What? Your ex crashed? How bad? I’ll come by after my prenatal checkup.”
I hesitated. “No, you don’t need to. It’s not serious. But Jaxen’s… different. It’s hard to explain over the phone. Free this afternoon? I want to talk face to face.”
“Sure. I’ve got the checkup this morning, and then I need to swing by the firm at lunch. Afternoon’s clear. Come to my place. Mom’s out of town for a few days. We can talk properly.”
