My phone rang the moment I walked into the building. Jaxen.
"Honey, are you at work?"
"Say what you need to say." I stepped into the elevator, where Ryan was already waiting, and my entire expression rearranged itself on reflex.
"Good morning, Mr. Parker."
Jaxen kept talking in my ear as if he hadn't noticed the shift.
"Can you take another day off and come with me to the doctor?"
"No."
"I still have a slight fever."
"Call someone to bring you medication."
"I want to see a doctor."
"Then go yourself." I hung up.
Ryan glanced at me. "Everything all right?"
"Family issue."
"Take another day if you need it."
I forced a smile. "I'll handle it this weekend." I stepped out before he could offer anything else.
