In the midst of my thoughts, my phone rings. It's Annie. My hands start to sweat. I need to calm down. Come on, Liam! She loves you. I answer cautiously, trying to stay calm.
"Hello, love," I say to her. I want her to hear that I love her every time I speak with her. I want her to never forget it.
"Are you okay? I was told it was all over." Her voice sounds anxious and worried. "I've been calling Aaron and he doesn't answer." She doesn't know it, but those words break my heart.
"Yes, I'm fine. Everyone is safe. Aaron suffered some injuries and is on his way to the hospital." She falls silent. I wish I had her in front of me to see her face and discover in her eyes what kind of concern she has for her ex-boyfriend.
"I was told Aaron helped rescue everyone..." her voice falters.
