“Explain,” I demand.
“I don't know. That's all I know. My father was certain he was going to marry her, and this was after you were already engaged.”
“Does Valentina know this?” Francesco asks.
“Yes. But I told her! She didn't know anything before that. I warned her because I was afraid of what he might do.”
“What did she say?”
“I don't think she believed me. She seemed completely convinced your wedding would happen and told me to stay calm.”
“Do you know who your father was speaking to?”
