I'm paralyzed by my own guilt. Valentina protected Graziela from me, as if I were the imminent danger looming over her life, and that just shows how much s**t I've done. At no point did she think I would choose her.
At no point did Valentina believe that I would put my life at risk just to save hers.
She didn't even consider that I would give my life for hers.
But what ultimately breaks me is knowing that she considers herself dead to all of us.
The only way out of this family is through death, and she embraces that conclusion as if it were the best way out—which tells me she's already gone and that it's all or nothing for her. Either she gets what she wants, or she dies.
I deserve this—both the guilt and her contempt—because I betrayed her
