“You should leave. I will keep her safe,” I tell Mia.
“I do not doubt that. Tell Siena we will still see each other.”
She leaves through the window without casting another glance at anyone around the table.
Lorenzo walks steadily despite having been close to death only a few weeks ago.
Arturo and I leave silently, moving through the service area toward the second floor while Francesco heads for the main entrance.
“We can take her down through here and into the basement,” Arturo says.
“Any chance they will search it?”
“They are unlikely to find the basement. The entrance is not conventional,” he answers confidently, staying alert to every movement in the house.
“We need a backup plan before Ginevra—”
“This is what I have right now,” he cuts me off.
He leaves me no choice.
