You have a choice to make; things aren’t safe for you back home,” he explained. “I get that. You didn’t believe I was your daughter until recently,” I replied. “You're handling this very well,” he said. “I haven’t really talked to my mom much since discovering the truth. Peter and Martha were terrible, but…” I scoffed, the memory still fresh. “Not everyone has perfect parents,” he pointed out. “I know. I’ve been too upset to confront her about the lies,” I admitted. “That’s a mature perspective. I’m proud of you,” he said. “I didn’t agree to come here, though,” I responded, my resolve firmer than before. “
