Chapter 43. Martha had spent nearly forty years around motorcycle clubs. Long enough to know that trouble rarely arrived screaming. It usually smiled, shook hands and pretended to belong. She continued watering the roses beside the clubhouse porch as though nothing unusual had happened. Vivienne slipped back through the rear entrance with perfectly composed hair, calm breathing and an innocent expression. Too innocent. Martha didn't look at her has Vivienne walked past her. "Good evening, Martha." Martha smiled kindly. "It certainly is, sweetheart." Vivienne returned the smile before disappearing inside. Only after the door shut did Martha lower the watering can. Her old blue eyes remained fixed on the back entrance. "You're making phone calls you don't want anyone hearing."
