Rhett noticed.
There it was again. That flash of genuine fear whenever Tucker's name entered the conversation.
He had seen it earlier, too, when Wyatt mentioned that Vivienne had been caught sneaking into Tucker's room. At the time, Rhett had assumed she was trying to intimidate the man into keeping quiet. Now he wasn't so sure.
"What the hell are you afraid of?" he asked.
"Nothing."
"Then why do you look like I've just told you I'm going to bury you alive?"
Vivienne shook her head, tears gathering faster. "I can't do this anymore. I can't keep living like this, waiting for somebody to decide whether I'm worth keeping alive. Please, Rhett, just let me go. I'll leave Colorado. I'll never come back, and you'll never have to see me again."
