BOOM!
The ground shook violently and car alarms erupted all over campus. Students screamed and black smoke burst upward from the faculty parking lot, followed by a column of orange flames.
For one frozen heartbeat… The entire university stood still.
Mason stared at the inferno from his motorcycle.
Where he'd been waiting. The realization hit him with brutal clarity.
That explosion… Had been meant for him.
"Oh, my God!"
Someone screamed. "Call nine-one-one!"
"There's been an explosion!"
Students scattered in every direction. Campus security sprinted toward the smoke but Mason was already running.
His phone appeared in his hand before he even remembered grabbing it. Cole answered on the first ring.
"What happened?"
