I went into the kitchen because I didn’t know what else to do with myself.
I made eggs and toast, put some in a tray, and carried them outside. It almost felt ridiculous, like we were a normal couple on vacation. My hands shook while I broke the eggs. I ended up burning the first batch of toast and threw them out before starting the second batch.
I spent a long time in the kitchen.
So when I took it to him and he didn’t even glance at me, I felt my chest tighten.
