The evening wind picked up as I stepped onto the second floor.
Cassie had changed the sofa in the living room. It used to be bright orange, now it was apple green.
It looked fresh against the dark wood furniture.
I sat on the couch in my loose clothes, wanting to read.
But Cassie couldn't find me any books lately.
"Have you eaten today? Why are you so thin?"
I heard Damien’s voice and looked up.
I met his cold eyes and said flatly, "I eat every day."
Damien sat beside me and pulled me into his arms. My shoulder blades pressed against his hand.
"Are you angry with me?" he asked, resting his chin on my head. "Did you think I wasn't coming back?"
