The truth behind Oscar

1442 Words
Oscar Oscar’s head is a mess. Ju was correct- Katherine is much more than they had anticipated. The beast had chosen her and with its healing power, Katherine could be his kingdom’s shield! But he already had his father’s cousin’s attention and Xu is not a man to displease. Now Oscar is in a dilemma- one that could result in a war. What would happen if Xu found out? See, all he had instructed his men to say was that he knows where King Xu’s betrothed was and for the price of peace, he was willing to aid him in his quest to get her back to him. An olive branch. Oscar’s plan had been to give up Katherine so that negotiation of a peace treaty could take place. Oscar feels that war is too old fashion for such an educated and modern world. Of course, some old customs were still needed, hence Katherine- the chosen bride/ sacrifice. The ceasefire was only going to be a front however, for Oscar would never forgive the man who took his mother and sister from him. The man who destroyed his kingdom. He would destroy them all from within, after gaining their trust. His plan had been almost perfect. Katherine is a virgin bride and what better gift to offer his uncle? He would say that she had been under his protection all this time. He could even state that she had been held prisoner somewhere and they had aided her and after learning the truth of her identity, they had decided to honor his royalty and return her, to Xu Kai. Oscar can even say his father had been the one who held her captive and he had come across it after overlooking King Drago’s army. Almost anything is believable in this situation because King Xu’s betrothed is still pure- that’s where Oscar’s anger rose. Katherine rightfully belonged to his uncle- she could have been his aunt all now and that knowledge angered him. Now he is changing his mind. Just the thought of Xu- he couldn’t even put his mind to it. Katherine is his wife and nobody is touching her but him. No divorce ever- if she even thinks the stupid thought and asks him in the future. He wrestles within himself- no! It’s for the best... for her to go to Xu- revenge is more important. She is responsible for his mother- Oscar sobs loudly. The pain excruciating in his chest when he thinks of his sister’s blood- her body in pieces scattered around. Xu’s evil eyes glaring at them, in his dragon form, his nostrils breathing out the fiery smoke. The horns on his head twisting as he glided towards him, murder on Xu’s mind, as the scaled creature had made a dive into young Oscar’s direction, is what stuck to Oscar’s mind all these years later. His phone beeped and he looks at the screen, glad for the distraction he saw there. Katherine had messaged her friend Dominique. It was set up on his phone by his tech team. Every move, call, message Katherine makes he knows it. Well, providing she has her phone on her at all times that is. He opens the app and sees, ‘Hey do you think I’ll make a great mother?’ and his eyebrows went up. A mother? He hopes she knows he had been joking about that. That was only to ruffle aunty Fen's feathers a bit, although true. His father would love a grandchild to play with before he dies. Drago had come to terms with himself being human now and knowing his death was near. All of the males in his ancestors and been vampires for a time then they reverted to humans as they aged. Lichen was not given the gift but somehow, he seemed to not age a bit since he hit twenty. At first, Oscar had Anthony monitor him closely, in case he was indeed like him and had hidden it from everyone. The young king had been certain that aunt Fen had not received the curse but it had been passed along to her son Lichen but that turned out to be untrue. He stares at the dim screen in his left hand, the words mother and Katherine did not blend well together. Oscar was not ready to be a parent. Maybe when he’s old and close to retirement perhaps he would consider one then and very well likely Katherine would not be the mother as she would be too old or probably dead by then. Old age- vampires outlive humans but yes they do die. He hears another silent beep and slides the screen up, his eyes widening at the response he sees, though he agrees with her. ‘Noooo, Kat you are the worst.’ Followed by a response from Katherine. ‘Rite? I’m not ready for that.’ ‘Nope, u gotta quit smoking and you’re not ready, are you?’ She smokes? This is news to Oscar- Katherine had been one of those protesters that held up placards... about everything, from children's rights to women's rights. What happened to her? He remembered when she had her little entourage of students that refused to use the bus because the driver smoked. The bus driver had laughed at her and even got himself into a hot mess when he pulled his cell phone out and began taping her. Her painted cardboards forced the board to give the man an ultimatum- either retire or enforce the rules of the school as the bus is school property. His cell phone was also ceased after Katherine threatened to get a local news station to cover the story. The school newspaper did a story on her, he remembered how fiery she looked as she pointed towards the bus in that photograph. Smoking of any kind- be it cigarettes, cigars, or vape, is banned from public places, enacted in an attempt to protect non-smokers from the effects of secondhand smoke, which include an increased risk of heart disease, cancer…the list is long. He’s been so proud of her then. ‘Heck no. I like heels too.’ ‘Exactly. U r 2 yung.’ ‘I agree. Plus, anywhere I go I would have a tag-along.’ Too young? Oscar didn’t agree there. In his kingdom, most women Katherine’s age were already mothers and probably on their second child too. Working also, plus wearing heels or whatever. Tag along- geez, hasn’t she heard of the father can be a parent too? These days women were very independent and stood up to men- Or perhaps hire a babysitter? Oscar didn’t think that women quit their jobs because they became mothers- just what crap was Kat on and why was he even entertaining this in his head? His servants came in then and Oscar’s bath is drawn. “Any services tonight?” one asks and Oscar shook his head yes. Definitely, in need every single night now since he seems to be drawn to his wife no matter what. The beast in her calls to him and he can no longer shield himself from it. The phoenix is too strong now and if Oscar does not exhaust himself beforehand, Katherine would be deflowered. Then there was another part to Kat entirely- her witch ancestors. And the matter of this symbol. After his bath, he checks his phone again and almost drops it when he sees what they texted since he placed it down. A whole bunch of uninteresting information about Dominique so Oscar just strolled down to the bottom. He had to flick his finger on the phone screen five times to get there- wow women could talk. Dominique- ‘Does Oscar want a baby?’ ‘I think so, he said it but I think he was joking.’ ‘Well, are you taking precautions, Kat?’ ‘Yes, of course.’ Katherine lied and Oscar’s eyebrows rose. Interestingly, she had not told her best friend about the truth behind their marriage. This is good- his wife is obeying him. She hadn’t spoken to Simon in a bit nor had she mentioned the sap to her best friend or her stepmother as he had requested too. Oscar feels a tingling sensation then and saw on the screen that Kat was typing but no message came in and she went offline. The feeling spreading- oh no, he will not make it on his wait for the woman to be brought in. The phoenix is calling out to him and the way his body is stirring up under his robe, it looks as if he’s taking the call. He didn’t get far.
