Vaden’s question about my powers hit like a hammer. Really? Internally, I groaned. How many times do I have to tell him? I had already laid it all out for him, every scrap of information I had. There were no secrets, no hidden agendas. If only he’d be clear about what he wanted to hear, I’d gladly tell him and be done with it. The uncertainty of his curiosity grated on my nerves, making me itch to snap something back. And I was just about to do it, when one of the council members spoke up, interrupting the tension.
