Naomi blinked, momentarily thrown.
"Ms. Dawson, you're reading way too much into this. I never planned on going to Sebastian for help."
She stood, slow and deliberate, and turned to the young man trailing a step behind Ms. Dawson, head bowed. "This is Kyle, right?"
The man looked up, startled to hear his own name.
Naomi's mouth twitched slightly, she realized, a beat too late, that addressing a stranger so casually hadn't exactly come across as respectful.
"Yes, that's Kyle." Ms. Dawson didn't seem to notice anything off. "Tonight, we'll be"
Before she could finish, a low voice cut through the room. "Go to the dinner with them."
