She turned slowly, her breath caught in her lungs, and he looked at her with those unreadable eyes of his. “All your belongings were moved here.” Her face went red instantly, burning with embarrassment, confusion, and the heavy weight of understanding. This wasn’t temporary anymore. This wasn’t a trial arrangement. Her life had been merged into his. Permanently. She opened her mouth to respond, to ask something, anything, but he cut her off again, his voice brisk and clipped. “I need to check something with the patrol guards. You go ahead and rest. Don’t wait for me.” And with that, he was gone, the door closing behind him like the final page of a chapter she hadn’t agreed to write.
