Cecilia opens the front door for me as I rush into the house. She’s holding bloody clothes and a pair of Reilly’s shoes. It’s a lot of blood.
“She’s in your Mamma’s bathroom,” she tells me. “I’ve got this. Go.”
I nod, grateful that someone is covering up the evidence. I trust Cecilia. She’ll take care of it for me. All I can think is that I need to find Reilly to see for myself that she’s alright.
I find her standing in Mamma’s shower, blood washing down her body as she stands in the water. She’s barely reacting, her arms wrapped around her body as she stares at the red water on the ground.
Mamma’s hand gently touches my arm. “She’s in shock. I’m going to help your aunt. I don’t know what happened, but that Irish guy told me to make sure we got rid of any evidence.”
