Anthony smiled. “Then this should be easy.”
He turned his attention back to his laptop, dismissing me before I could argue.
Marco waited until we reached the porch before speaking.
“He’s right.”
“About what?”
“Leaving her alone.”
“I wasn’t planning to chase her down.”
“Good.”
“I only asked what her plans were.”
“You don’t usually have to ask.”
I looked at him.
Marco shoved his hands into his jacket pockets.
“That’s why this is bothering you.”
“It isn’t bothering me.”

“Can we stop talking about Cassie?”
“Absolutely.”
We made it halfway down the sidewalk.
Then I asked, “Did she say anything to you after lunch?”
