Emma's POV.
My heart broke as I took in the scene around me. It was horrible. The air smelled like smoke and death, and it made my stomach turn. I felt like I was about to throw up. My heart broke even more as I watched Shaun shift and run away from me. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I folded my arms over my belly and tried to comfort myself.
What did he mean when he said that he couldn't? Did he mean that he couldn't look at me right now? Did he run because he needed to get away from me? Did he blame me for all of this?
I jumped when I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was Emmerson. She looked awful. "I'm sorry for allowing this to happen, Emma. I should have stayed here. I should have fought harder. I should have tried to stop them."
