Emma's POV.
The air that came streaming in through the open window was freezing. It burned the parts of my skin, like my face and hands, that were exposed to it. It felt like thousands of tiny needles were pricking my skin.
My head was throbbing. It felt like my brain had swollen and was now too large to fit inside my skull. The pressure was so incredibly tense that it felt like my skull would split open at any second.
I had to breathe through my open mouth, because my broken nose had already begun to swell up. It felt cracked, tender, and bruised. I could taste blood and snot in the back of my throat. I could also feel the blood around my mouth and down my throat and chest begin to crust as it came into contact with the winter air.
