Celia could feel the frustration rolling off Lucas in waves. Once they were close to town, she tried to get him to put her down, but he only tightened his grip on her, a muscle in his cheek jumping as he marched on without a word. “Where are we going?” she whispered as they approached the town, the sky slowly turning pink. She could see some movement, but most of the pack was still asleep. “I have no idea,” he replied quietly, his voice tense. “I don’t really have friends here, especially not in town.” “I have an idea.” She pointed along the edge of town, down a narrow path that kept them mostly hidden by the trees. He silently followed her directions until they reached a street on the very outskirts of town lined with small, crooked houses. She was positive this area wasn’t frequented
