Birthdays have always been a big celebration in my family. There are certain traditions that we have. Depending on whose birthday it is, my father or mother always gets the first dance of the night with their child, and last night was no different. When the music started, Dad came over to lead me to the dance floor.
Since our family knows the drill, everyone stood back to watch us. Dad always chooses our songs and for this birthday, he chose I Loved Her First, by Heartland, which made me cry the entire time we danced.
“I’m so happy for you. Jude is a good man and his family is good people. I know you’re going to have a wonderful life with him …” he began, then started singing the chorus of the song to me, making me cry even harder.
