I went back to the club three nights later because the alternative was sitting at home replaying the way Elias Voss had looked at me when he told me to stay out of trouble.
The place was already packed. Bass heavy enough to feel in my ribs and the soles of my feet. Red and purple lights cut through the dark, turning skin into something unreal. The air smelled like expensive perfume, spilled liquor, and warm bodies pressed too close.
