In the end, Hera decided she would go to dinner at Joel’s parents’ house to hear Vern out. Even though she was highly skeptical that the woman was truly apologetic, at the end of the day, Vern was her mother-in-law. For Joel’s sake, she had to try to get along with her at the very least.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” Joel asked as they drove toward his parents’ home.
“I’m okay,” Hera nodded, trying her best to see the light at the end of the tunnel. “It’s just dinner.”
“It’s not too late, kiddo. We can turn around and go home,” Poseidon called out from the back seat.
“No, it’s okay, Poseidon. Really,” Hera repeated, looking over her shoulder with a small smile. “But I appreciate you having my back.”
