The final move

(Magnus) I'm in the war room when the bonds snap. Sixteen of them. All at once. Like threads being cut. I pause. Feel each one break. Daniel and the fifteen warriors. Dead. Good. Now I know. Shadow speaks. 'They're all gone.' 'I know.' 'And you feel nothing.' 'Why would I? They served their purpose. Tried to kill Kael. Failed. That's all there is to it.' I mark their positions on the map. Eastern border. Exactly where I sent them. Exactly where I expected them to die. Daniel was supposed to be different. Supposed to be unstable enough, desperate enough, broken enough to actually succeed. But he failed. Just like he failed at everything else that mattered. Waste of potential. Waste of a perfectly good suicide mission. I calculate the losses. Fifteen warriors down. Plus Daniel.
