Briggs’ POV
Brianna comes in a few minutes later and engages her in a talk. She laughs too easily, but it doesn’t match her mood earlier. But she laughs anyway, soft, unaware.
Like her body hasn’t caught up with what her mind is trying to ignore. I lean against the far wall, watching. Not obvious, or close enough to pull her attention.
Just enough distance to see everything.
The way she tucks her hair behind her ear when she’s thinking. The way her shoulders relax when she forgets she’s supposed to be tense. The way she glances toward the window every few minutes without realizing she’s doing it.
She’s adapting fast, too fast for someone who should still be unsettled. Which means one thing: she’s very comfortable with me.
