She doesn’t answer, but she doesn’t agree either. That’s the problem.
Her eyes stay on mine—stubborn, heated, still carrying the edge from a second ago.
She’s not backing down, and I’m not letting her walk into that alone. The silence stretches, then her phone rings sharply.
We both look at it, an Unknown number.
She answers. “…Hello?”
I don’t move, I watch her instead. The way her expression shifts slowly, like something is settling into place.
“…What do you mean?” she says.
Her voice drops, more tighter. My jaw tightens slightly. She turns her face away from me, like she doesn’t want me reading it.
