I took very little time to catch my breath before thinking more about getting Lilly out of the room. I scooped up Helen's spent body in my arms and walked to the bed. I laid her out and covered her in a light sheet. A smile was glued to her face as I bent over and kissed her lips.
"Thank you, Jack. That was incredible," she mumbled as she drifted off into sleep.
I waited a few minutes just watching this woman whom I loved. My life partner. I brushed the hair out of her face with my hand and kissed her forehead as I stood.
Lilly had already left by the time I turned around. An empty closet was all that lay before me. Surprisingly enough, I was relieved. Tomorrow I'm sure we will have time to deal with this. God how I hope so.
