"I better be." It sounded close to a whine.
"So what's your idea?"
"I was thinking maybe I could tone it down at least a little bit for school, just to keep the peace. But I want to be able to dress how I want to at home. I should be able to dress how I feel like in my own house, right? And if I go out with friends or something, then I'll ask you for an honest opinion on my outfits for that. Sound good?"
Her tone was soft and calm, her face still tucked against her father's neck and shoulder.
