Caius came through the infirmary door and went straight to me. He took my hand as another contraction started, and I held on until it passed. Sera was already checking me while the other healers finished preparing what she needed. Lyrienne stayed near the bed and refused to go anywhere.
"I'm here," Caius said.
"I know."
His eyes moved to my stomach. I could feel Vorak through our bond, and Vaela responded to him at once. Both wolves knew what was happening. Our baby was coming.
The next few hours were nothing like I had imagined. I had thought being a Celestial might make giving birth easier, but I was very wrong. Every contraction demanded more from me, and Caius never released my hand. Sera remained beside me, telling me when to breathe and when it was time to push.
