The door closed behind us and the cold air hit immediately.
Caden and his delegation moved toward their own tree line without looking back. His beta said something low to the head of counsel and the third wolf who never spoke fell into position behind them and within a minute they were at the edge of the neutral ground and gone into the trees.
I stood and watched them go.
They're arriving too late for that.
I turned the words over without trying to land on anything specific about them. Caden hadn't said it to be dramatic. He'd said it because it was true and he'd understood it was true before he walked through that door and he'd wanted us to understand it the same way before we walked into whatever the High Council was bringing in twenty four days.
