Kaius barely heard the clatter of his fork hitting the tray. His breath caught in his throat, his heart hammering in his chest. “What?” he demanded, his voice sharper than he intended.
Gavi raised an eyebrow, clearly enjoying how easily he had gotten a reaction. “Yeah, heard about it earlier. No details, but whatever it is, she’s out of commission for a few days.”
Kaius was already standing before Gavi finished his sentence. His chair scraped against the floor, drawing a few curious glances from the other trainees, but he didn’t care. He had to see her. He had to know she was okay.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on, Romeo.” Gavi grabbed his wrist, amusement replaced with slight concern. “Where do you think you’re going?”
