It was already three in the afternoon, and Grandpa and Precious still hadn’t made it back. They should’ve been home by now. I know Ardent’s slammed today and only squeezed in that meeting to see them.

The twins were out cold. I was hanging in the living room with Auntie while we waited for Grandpa. It felt weird without a loud, cute kid running around. She’d only been gone a few hours, but the house already felt lonely.
