"With all due respect," he said, "I feel like this meeting has already condemned me before even listening to me."
"You are being heard," I said, staring at him.
He let out a short, humorless laugh.
"No, Clara. You've already decided who I am."
I felt an uncomfortable knot in my chest. Because a part of me wished none of this were real… I wished I could discover that Howard was lying, that the engineer was exaggerating, that the documents were a coincidence. But they weren't. Everything fit together too well, too perfectly.
My lawyer opened another folder.
"Regardless of intent, the facts presented justify immediate corporate action to protect the company and its shareholders."
One of Alexander's lawyers frowned.
"What kind of action?"
