After the officer left, the mansion fell strangely silent, as if the walls themselves were processing everything we had just heard.
Ethan and I returned to the office. The blueprints were still open on the desk, the material samples were still where we had left them, everything was exactly the same.
And yet, nothing felt the same anymore. I sat down again across from him, trying to concentrate on the documents, the measurements, the budgets… anything, but it was impossible.
Because Ethan was there, and although he pretended to review the blueprints, it was clear he wasn't reading anything.
His gaze darted from one point to another, distracted, distant. As if he were still caught up in that conversation, as if he were still thinking about Vanessa or Alexander… or me.
