I step off the plane in Maui feeling like a weight just lifted off my chest. My suitcase wheels rattle behind me as I head straight for the resort shuttle, hair already frizzing from the humidity, sundress sticking to my thighs from the long flight. Twenty-four, freshly single after catching my ex with his "work friend" in our apartment, and I booked this solo trip on a whim with the last of my savings. I had no plans and no expectations. Just sun and ocean, and maybe a few fruity drinks strong enough to make me forget his name. The resort is paradise palm trees swaying, infinity pool overlooking the beach, that salty-sweet air that makes everything feel possible. I check in, drop my bag in my ocean-view room, and change into a bikini that's a little bolder than what I usually wear
