I collapsed against the stone path and everything became chaos. Guards surrounded us while Nyra shouted for help and the assassin raised one hand.
Dark smoke erupted around him.
Gideon appeared at the edge of the garden just as the figure disappeared into the swirling darkness.
"Find him!" Gideon shouted.
Several guards rushed after the assassin, but the smoke vanished before they could reach the garden wall and then I heard another voice.
"Seraphina!" He yelled.
It was Draven.
He crossed the garden faster than I had ever seen anyone move and he dropped beside me.
His hands immediately pressed against my wound.
"Look at me." Draven said.
I tried and his face was pale with fury.
"I am looking." I said.
"Stay awake." He said.
"I'm trying." I said and he lifted me carefully.
