By the following morning, Dragonspire was drowning in rumors.
I discovered that almost immediately after opening my eyes because I could hear voices beyond my bedroom door and although the servants tried keeping their conversations quiet, the walls of the fortress seemed determined to carry every whisper straight into my chambers.
"Something happened in the royal suite." A woman said.
"I heard there was golden light." Another woman said.
"Someone said the Queen had scales." A man said.
"That isn't possible." The first woman said.
"They said the King saw it himself." Another man said.
I sat on the edge of my bed while staring at the floor. So much for keeping the previous night's events private.
I rubbed my temples and tried to ignore the pounding behind my eyes.
