The fortress woke to the sound of dragons screaming. I had barely slept, because the image of the enormous creature rising from the northern mountains had remained trapped inside my mind, and when the first roar shook Dragonspire, I immediately sat upright. Draven was already awake and he stood beside the windows in nothing but dark trousers and a loose shirt, and his attention was fixed toward the mountains. Another scream echoed through the fortress.
