The growls were getting closer. Ash pressed his back against the cave wall, feeling the rough stone dig into his healing wounds. The silver was still working its way out of his system, his wolf clawing beneath his skin but unable to fully surface. Kira stood beside him, her knife drawn, her heartbeat thundering so loud he could hear it over the approaching footsteps. "How many?" she whispered. He closed his eyes, forcing his senses to sharpen despite the poison still dulling them. "Four. Maybe five." He gritted his teeth against the pain lancing through his side. "Too many."
