Chapter 51 – Not Enough

1202 Words

Amelia’s POV She didn’t remember how she got outside. One minute she was in the elevator, gasping through silent sobs, and the next thing she knew, her feet were moving. The cold air hit her face. The sun was still out, though duller now, hovering low and distant in the sky like it, too, wanted nothing to do with her. She just kept walking. No idea where. No idea why. Just… away. People brushed past her. Cars honked. Somewhere a child laughed, and it sounded so cruel, so far removed from the way her world had just shattered, that it made her stomach turn. She didn’t even know which street she was on when she stepped into the subway. Her hands trembled as she fed the machine a bill and took the ticket. She didn’t check where the train was headed. Didn’t look at the color of the line.
