Trust was getting more difficult with Jake, especially when he made decisions like this. I would never be okay with dismissing a child in need, especially if the only reason he was doing so was because of his own personal feelings against her father.
“Your hatred of Damien is clouding your judgment,” I said. “If it was any other child to any other parent, you would have allowed it.”
Finally, Jake’s blank mask vanished entirely, as a mix of regret and anger warred for dominance on his face.
He unhooked his arms and took a step closer to me. I wasn’t frightened as I knew he would never harm me, but it did upset me to see him so agitated.
