For most of the next year, Cindy just felt worse and worse. Her father became increasingly distant. She couldn't even talk to him about sports anymore. He would try to hold that conversation for a minute or so, but then he would invariably find a reason to walk away and do something else. She wondered if she was just too stupid for him to talk to.
