The way she said it, I was expecting a 'here's your sign' snarky reply. Instead, her actual reply floored me.
"Leanne is expecting your call," she said.
They both laughed and hugged me when they saw my astonished expression.
"How...when...I" I stammered.
"We made Nurse Hamilton promise she would let us tell you," my father said. "She called Leanne right after school, when Miss Cahill left her office."
That reminded me that Miss Cahill was also expecting a call from me. s**t! There was not enough time!
"Leanne apparently knew Nurse Hamilton fairly well even before she and Heather started hanging out," my mother added, "So when she got that call, she listened. She agreed that she would answer when you call her tonight. It is later there, so you'd better go ahead and call her."
