Chapter 50: Ciara’s POV I panted as I ran, lungs on fire and heart hammering. The wind clawed at my skin like it wanted to drag me down. My breath came in broken gasps, but I refused to stop. Branches tore at my arms while twigs snapped under my boots. I didn’t care where I was going, only that I had to get away. The moonlight broke through the trees just enough to show me how far I hadn’t gone. The silver ceremonial wreath still tangled in my hair felt like a crown of thorns. “Arghhh!” I cried out, ripping it off despite the pain. I hurled it into the forest without a second thought. The trees thickened, swallowing the sky in shadows. I felt like I was being watched, hunted even. My skin crawled under the weight of the dark. My heart pounded so hard I couldn’t hear anything else.
